Executive Director Stuart Morris on the Zero Hunger Pledge
Our Executive Director, Stuart Morris, spoke recently with the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge about East-West Seed’s Zero Hunger pledge and the company’s commitment to ending global hunger.
As East-West Seed’s implementing partner for the pledge, East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Foundation is contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) by equipping smallholder farmers with sustainable techniques for growing nutritious vegetables, making more food available to local communities.
“Farmers who start adopting improved technologies, their yield goes up, their income goes up,” Stuart said. “But it’s not just income. Imagine the additional volume of vegetables produced by those farmers. That’s enough to supply millions more low-income consumers with safe-to-eat, healthy vegetables.”
The Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge calls on companies around the world to join the global movement to end hunger. East-West Seed answered this call in July 2022, committing $18 million over a 5-year period to support livelihood and nutritional security. In November 2023, EWS-KT presented at the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge’s “From Pledge to Action” event, showcasing the impact of our work with smallholder farmers and refugees in Uganda.
