Knowledge Transfer was a successful precursor to the company’s market development in Cambodia. Starting in 2009 in Siem Reap, dedicated farmer training programs were instrumental in shifting farmers towards more modern and productive farming techniques. With the introduction of year-round production and the use of improved varieties, farmers were soon able to start competing with Vietnamese and Thailand imports which had dominated the vegetable markets for many years. Initially, EWS seed sales were only through local distributors, however, with the increasing demand catalysed by EWS-KT, East-West Seed registered as a commercial operation in 29th September 2015. Since then, sharing knowledge through our non-profit training programs has become an integral part of East-West Seed operations in Cambodia. EWS-KT continues to operate in areas where farmers lack the skills needed to make vegetables an attractive livelihood and where the company has an ambition to grow new markets. EWS-KT currently supports field activities in Siem Reap, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Kandal, Battambang, Kratie, Stung Treng, Preah Vihear, and Banteay Meanchey, Odor Meanchey, Tbong Khmoum, Prey Veng, Kampong Spue, Takeo, and Kampot. This work is further amplified by an increasingly stronger digital presence – which enables the team to share technical advice in areas where we have no boots on the ground.
