Our Work in the Philippines

Under the Sa Palay at Gulayan, May Ani, Hanapbuhay, Oportunidad, at Nutrisyon (PAG-AHON – Phase 1) project, we at East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer (EWS-KT) Philippines train farmers to improve their capacity in vegetable production. This is a joint partnership of East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer, DA-PhilRice and the local Government unit of Lupao, Nueva Ecija.

We train farmers on vegetable production techniques that help smallholder farmers to improve their yield and profit. We organize multiple training programs to cover different aspects of vegetable production including land preparation, mulching, trellising, fertilization, pest management and more.

Zaldy Doctolero is our young farmer from Lupao, Nueva Ecija. He started as a marketing officer who is responsible for purchasing vegetables from farmers, checking their quality and taking them to market. Being a farmer himself, he faced the difficulties of marketing vegetables and dealing with excess production. With the support of EWS-KT, Zaldy learnt about different production techniques that helped him improve his understanding of vegetable produce and market them right.

Zaldy trains other farmers on the information he learnt which has helped to improve the community of farmers.

Under the SDG-COCO project, we at East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer (EWS-KT) Philippines train farmers to improve their capacity in vegetable production. The project is a joint partnership between GIZ and EWS-KT Philippines.

We train farmers on vegetable production techniques that help smallholder farmers to improve their yield and profit. We organize multiple training programs to cover different aspects of vegetable production including land preparation, mulching, trellising, fertilization, pest management and more.

Marie Elena Banal is our young key farmer who started producing vegetables with the support of KT in her small demonstration plot. The farm was about natural farming using organic mulch in raised beds. With the support of KT staff, she also makes organic fertilizers like FPJ, FFJ, etc. Her demonstration plot produced healthy crops that improved her harvest.

Marie has benefitted from the new techniques and urges other farmers to adopt similar techniques.
