New Scholarship for Agriculture Students in Bangladesh
Young agriculturists are pivotal to meeting Bangladesh’s nutritional needs and to ensuring long-term food security.
Through a newly established partnership with Patuakhali Science and Technical University, East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Bangladesh will sponsor selected university students to undertake postgraduate agricultural research. These master’s-level students will focus on performing action research on sustainable vegetable farming in the country’s coastal districts, where farmers are facing new challenges due to climate change.
This public-private partnership between the university and EWS-KT should attract more graduate students to the field of vegetable production and help them develop their research capacity. At the same time, these young agriculturists will be producing science-based recommendations that will benefit Bangladesh’s smallholder vegetable farmers.
The technical research will be conducted on learning sites and demonstration plots established by EWS-KT in coastal areas, and EWS-KT will subsequently share this new knowledge with the country’s smallholder farmers.
