Celebrating Women in Agriculture – International Women’s Day 2023
This International Women’s Day, we honor women in agriculture around the world—including the women farmers we work with and the women agriculturalists at East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Foundation, who go above and beyond to bring new knowledge and skills to smallholder farmers in Asia and Africa.
Here are just a few stories of the inspiring women of EWS-KT . . .

Aisha, a housewife in Zaria LGA, always dreamed of being a farmer. After discovering the EWS-KT Nigeria Facebook group, she connected in person with field staff and made her dream come true.
As a Rural Extension Worker, Komal supports farmers in seven villages in the Dewas district. “Training and working with other farmers on techniques shared by the EWS-KT team gives me immense satisfaction,” she said.

Maleka first learned to farm on cucumber. “EWS-KT has different techniques for each crop,” Maleka explained. “My neighbors visit our field to observe and learn these vegetable-growing techniques.”
A high school teacher in Kayin state, Daw Naw Eae Tho found a new career in vegetable farming after COVID and conflict closed the schools in her township.
