ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

About the Role:

The key responsibility of this position is to market EWS-KT extension materials and advice via social media and website activities for a smallholder vegetable farming audience in Bangladesh. This position will also increase synergies and cooperation with East-West Seed’s digital presence. 

The overall objective is to increase EWS-KT’s digital outreach and engagement with its target audience to improve knowledge of good farming practices among smallholder vegetable farmers in Bangladesh. The channels for this include, but are not limited to, social media, messengers, chatbots, websites, and other digital platforms. This position will plan digital content and events, participate in non-branded online groups and forums, and proactively drive conversations on owned social media platforms. The Media & Content Coordinator will also train EWS-KT Bangladesh staff on the use of social media as a means to increase online outreach. EWS-KT currently has a strong focus on field-based training, but we recognize the opportunity to extend our quality knowledge assets and reach more people through a variety of digital platforms. As the EWS-KT agro-experts develop the technical messages, this position will be responsible for modifying the content as required by the platforms and, in some cases, create new content with the help of EWS-KT’s Technical Support Hub.

Responsibilities:

  • Understanding smallholder farmers’ media preferences in Bangladesh through direct and indirect surveys.
  • Identifying and managing media channels to share technical and nontechnical information to smallholder farmers.
  • Building, maintaining, and optimizing EWS-KT’s online and offline presence; under the guidance of the Media
  • Communications Manager for Farmer Extension, developing and executing an integrated communications strategy across all digital channels throughout the marketing funnel to meet organizational targets.
  • Assisting in proofreading and publishing promotional materials on digital and nondigital EWS-KT or paid media.
  • Assisting EWS-KT Bangladesh in printing guides, banners, and posters for training smallholder farmers on vegetable production.
  • Coordinating with the EWS-KT Bangladesh field and technical teams to gather content and use the information to create a content calendar for all media channels.
  • Participating in relevant third-party local farming groups/forums, proactively driving conversations.
  • Training staff in moderating, posting, and publishing on social media, radio, magazines, and other platforms.
  • Defining and reaching KPIs for reach and engagement of the target audience through planned activities, including but not limited to social media, email, magazines, radio, digital advertising, and offline activities (such as training).
  • Providing monthly reporting and data analysis on performance, queries, and trends and providing actionable feedback for ongoing optimization and further growth of all EWS-KT platforms.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or agriculture, marketing, business, new media, or any other relevant qualifications/experience
  • Work experience in multimedia, including digital
  • Demonstrable data-driven thinking, able to make real-time improvements based on measurable results
  • Good understanding of and experience in digital marketing, radio, and print media
  • Video and photo experience (creation and editing)
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and local language
  • Good presentation and communication skills; demonstrable understanding of content delivery best practices
  • Enthusiastic, innovative, and self-motivated
  • Good team player
  • Ability to travel when necessary
