Scope

The Team Lead will assist in setting up a learning site to showcase EWS-KT farming techniques and will supervise a team of Technical Field Officers, in close collaboration with the Ghana Knowledge Transfer Manager. (EWS-KT Technical Field Officers focus on sharing knowledge on improved fresh vegetable production practices with smallholder farmers.) The Team Lead, together with the Technical Specialist, will also be responsible for providing technical support to the team of Technical Field Officers and will guide them to implement project activities as planned.

Roles & Responsibilities

This position is responsible for providing direction, oversight, and coordination for the following result areas:

Setup of EWS-KT operation in Ghana

  • Support the setup of the learning site and the training of field staff
  • Adapt training materials to the local situation and needs
  • Network with potential partners and stakeholders

Coordination of activities, resources, equipment, and information

  • Monitor working hours, budge and, plans
  • Controlling project expenses for field work (demo farm inputs, travel, etc.) in coordination with the EWS-KT accounting department
  • Manage appropriate legal paperwork (staff contracts)
  • Providing technical backstopping to the team of Technical Field Officers
  • Support team of Technical Field Officers to make effective monthly activity plans with time frame, schedule, and budget
  • Make regular visits to project areas to ensure that targets are being met
  • Provide logistical support for staff training events and visits from EWS-KT global team members
  • Organize logistical support for field staff and key farmers
  • Report to management as required
  • Ensure that operations adhere to EWS-KT’s and donors’ policies and regulations

Monitoring and evaluation

  • Supervise the implementation of field activities
  • Use the provided monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Monitor and track each project’s progress and handle any issues that arise
  • Support the team of Technical Field Officers to maintain up-to-date demo farm records, records of training participation, and other monitoring data requested by EWS-KT and the donor
  • Produce a monthly report of data on demo farms and training sessions
  • Archive photos from field visits and demo plots

Communication and point of contact

  • Act as the point of contact between the team of Technical Field Officers and the global Knowledge Transfer Support team
  • Coordinate and liaise with other relevant stakeholders (government, projects, etc.)
  • Coordinate and liaise with village officials to ensure active participation of farmers
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports
  • Help to prepare presentations for workshops and trainings
  • Help in the development (translation) of extension materials and other documents

Technical advice

  • Provide technical backstopping to the team of Technical Field Officers and ensure that the team is well equipped to support farmers
  • Coordinate with management to ensure that the team of Technical Field Officers follows and shares technical recommendations promoted by EWS-KT

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in agriculture or horticulture from a recognized knowledge institution in Ghana
  • Technical competence in all aspects of crop management
  • Experience with managing a team
  • Experience in technical training (farmer extension)
  • Experience with administrative tasks
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and motorcycle driving skills
  • Willingness to travel and/or relocate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the local language
  • English and Twi proficiency
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) is a plus
